Riley’s Fall 2023 update

Hi there! 10 years have passed since my last bio update, and there are many exciting stories to share.

I graduated in May of 2023 from Auburn University with a degree in Marketing and Accounting. I relocated to Atlanta and am working at an international business consulting firm. I’m confident that my travel experiences played a role in landing this fabulous opportunity.

Outside of my job, I spend most days dreaming of my next adventure. After we cross Antarctica off the bucket list this winter, I will have visited 43 countries across all 7 continents! If you know how long I badgered persuaded my parents to plan this trip, then you know how thrilled I am for this adventure.

One summer in college, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Greece through LeadAbroad. It was an incredible experience to see a place I had longed to explore. Most importantly, I finally crossed bungee-jumping off my bucket list—even if it was 10 years later. (If you’ve read THE PASSPORT PROJECT, you know why this was a BIG DEAL. If you haven’t, then you should!)

I spend my free time snowboarding in Colorado in the winter and scanning GoingTM for flight deals to talk my friends into our next adventure. In the next few years I hope to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania and ride hot air balloons over Cappadocia, Turkey. Stay tuned to see me bring these ideas to reality!

Riley McIntyre – Fall 2013

Meerkat encounter Wellington zoo
Wellington, New Zealand

Hey people! I’m Riley. I’m twelve years old and in the seventh grade.

I’m starting to get excited about the trip now that school has started.  In the summer, I ALWAYS get so excited about school starting; however, now that math is getting hard and social studies confusing, I’m pretty excited about leaving for five months. The thing is, I just don’t get excited about stuff like temples or history, no matter how elaborate. So I’m hoping we just don’t go to too many cathedrals. I’m also not happy at all about having to share a bed with my sister for five months. She is such a bed hog!

But enough with the negatives, ’cause I’m not a negative person. The things I am excited about are the Gili Islands (the destination that I chose), Zorbing, riding a luge down the Great Wall of China, and animal encounters. I know I should be excited about the Great Barrier Reef, but after years of watching Shark Week, I’m nervous about the sharks. However, my absolute favorite animals are meerkats. I’m begging my parents to let me do a meerkat encounter somewhere along the way. They are so cute; I just want to gobble them up!

I know I’ll really look back at how this was a life-changing experience (believe me, I’ve had plenty of people tell me that). But for now, g’day mates! See, I’m ready for Australia.
